Ranjit, Subhranshu, Abhishek hit tons in drawn Ranji tie

Second-innings century by Ranjit Singh, Subhranshu Senapati and debutant Abhishek Yadav enabled Odisha split points in their four-day Ranji Trophy Group-B match against Rajasthan at Dhruve Pandove Stadium in Patiala today.

Forced to follow on after conceding a first-innings lead of 151 runs, Odisha fought back with vengeance to declare their second innings at 508 for six and take an unassailable lead of 357 runs when the match concluded as draw. However, Rajasthan gained three points by taking first-innings lead, while Odisha settled with one point. Odisha now have nine points from four matches and the Govind Poddar-led team will play their next match against Assam at Hyderabad from November 13 to 16.

Opener Ranjit Singh notched up his second first-class hundred with a 289-ball 116, which included 15 boundaries. He was involved in a 233-run partnership for the third wicket with Subhranshu, who posted his maiden first-class century with a 254-ball 137, which was studded with 20 boundaries and one six.

Abhishek registered his maiden first-class ton with an unbeaten 115, which came off 157 balls and included 15 hits to the rope. Besides the three ton-makers, wicket-keeper Saurabh Rawat was another successful Odisha batsman of the day, making 45.

Earlier in reply to a healthy first-innings total of 323 by Rajasthan, Odisha folded up for 172. The highlight of the innings was a defiant 67 by allrounder Deepak Behera, who hit eight fours and two sixes in his 148-ball knock. S Khan was the most successful batsman for Rajasthan in their only innings, hitting 110. Among Odisha bowlers, captain Govind Poddar and pacer Suryakant Pradhan picked up three wickets each, while Alok Mangaraj claimed a brace.

The match kicked up a controversy as Odisha manager Bikash Pradhan lodged a written complaint with match referee Sanjay Verma, alleging ball tampering by Rajasthan bowlers. Odisha missed the services of their experienced pace bowler and vice-captain Basant Mohanty, who was replaced by Alok Mangaraj. According to team manager Pradhan, Mohanty was having back problem and was given rest.
